Today Marlene and I spent the entire day in the Palazzo Massimo, one of Rome's National Museums. It actually is not that big but we sketched a lot. A Roman copy of the famous Greek discus thrower is there.
Note to travelers (aka mom and dad, linda and leon): if you buy a ticket to any of the national museums, you can get into the other 3 with the same ticket anytime in the next three days!
They include:
Crypta Balbi
The Baths of Diocletian
Palazzo Altemps
Palazzo Massimo
Pretty good for 10 Euro!

I don't know who took these photos... I'll post some of ours later.

The Bronze guy is another famous statue of a Boxer.

Tonight three of us attended a pianoforte recital in a church designed by Borromini right outside of which there is a fountain by Bernini. Pretty wonderful!

Here is the fountain and church which are on piazza navona. (i didn't take the picture, il socialista associazione culturale did; in case its copyrighted..)

went sketching around the city today. absolutely beautiful. It is finally getting warm enough to not have to wear a coat in the sun. The shade and after dark are still a little chilly. the number of tourists is slightly increasing too...

Listen to the last 7 and a half minutes of last weeks episode of this american life (#205 Plan B) about objects. It is really beautiful.

The Cenci aka "chenchee"

This weekend we went to the small medieval town of Assisi.  It is only about 2 hours from Rome.  There was actually a lot of hiking around the town which we took advantage of.  On sunday morning we watched the sun rise but the cloud cover and mountains blocked it.  It was worth it though to see the town wake up.
The entire town was made with stone and built into the hillside.  In art history we looked at Louis Kahn's sketchbooks and some of what he drew from his visit to Assisi.  In one instance, we though we found one of his vantage points.  Pretty neat.

Time for figure drawing!

What is this...

Well, I got a blog. I think it will be easier to let everyone know how I am.
Not sure how long it will last.
For now, Rome is great.

It's 11 and the studios close at midnight, one more hour of work!
